New CCUS project

What a great way to “kick off” this new year! Viken County Council has decided to support our CCUS-project "CCUS Verdiskapingspotensialet - næringsutvikling og innovasjon” where we will map the potential value creation of CCUS - business development and innovation!

The goal for this project is to contribute to innovation, new business opportunities, technology development, increased competence, development in existing companies, and the possible establishment of new ones. The support amounts to NOK 2,280,000 (50% of the total costs of the project).

17 Project partners:

CCUS Norway members: Aker Carbon Capture, Beform, Borg CO2, Borg CO2 Terminal, CO2 Capsol, IFE, Mosjøen og Omegn Næringsselskap (MON), Norske Skog Saugbrugs, NORSUS, SINTEF, Slåttland and Stormkast Utvikling are partners in the project, together with Fredrikstad kommune, Fredrikstad Næringsforening, Klimapartnere Viken and Næringshagen Østfold. The partners will meet in two weeks and “kick-off” the project.

- For Viken county council, green transition, circular economy and digitization are priority areas for regional business development. The clusters are important actors in bringing about this change. We therefore appreciate the clusters' commitment to support companies and businesses in their work to deliver more sustainable solutions. We look forward to seeing the results from the projects that have now received county council support, says Johan Edvard Grimstad, county council for industry in Viken county municipality.

CCUS Norway is grateful for the support, and look forward to creating value through the activities that are planned in the project, for the project partners, for Viken and for the CCUS-industry.

Examples of what we intend to do in this project:

  • Establish a forum - CCUS supplier forum - especially for suppliers of technology and/or expertise for the development of the CCUS industry.
  • Map the possible environmentally and resource-efficient use of CO2 in Viken (e.g. greenhouses, algae production, mineralisation, concrete aggregates).
  • Map what is needed in order to put in place a test and competence center for CCU in Halden.
  • Map CCUS climate effects in Viken.
  • Map what competence the CCUS industry will need.
  • Map the value creation potential that the establishment of a terminal for CO2 transport will have.
  • Make an animation/video to showcase ongoing and potentially future CCUS projects.
  • Conduct a market survey of the volumes of raw material that can be produced by mineralizing CO2.
